San Diego Seals News Release

The San Diego Seals have clinched a playoff spot after a commanding 14-8 win over the Calgary Roughnecks on Friday night at Pechanga.

After a pregame tailgate party with some wild lucha libre wrestling matches to fire up the crowd and celebrate César Chávez Day, the fiesta headed inside for the Latin Heritage Night themed matchup. The night featured performances by Mariachi Mi Torres and Wa-Kushma Folk Production and both the fans and the Seals were fired up!

The Seals started the night off quick with goals from Dickson, Dobbie, and Berg for a 3-0 lead just minutes into the game. The 1st quarter finished with a 5-2 lead after two more from Dickson and Crowley. The 2nd quarter started off with a goal from Captain Brodie Merrill, followed by a great goal from rookie Jake Govett and a penalty shot goal from Austin Staats for a strong 8-3 lead at half.

The second half saw a similar dominating performance from the Seals with Dobbie, Gobrecht, Staats, Berg and Dickson all getting points on the board. What a lineup.

On the Roughnecks side, the team was led by Jesse King and Kyle Waters who each netted two goals. But the Calgary offense couldn't get past the outstanding goaltending from Scigliano who ended with 32 saves on the night.

With the win tonight, the Seals clinched a playoff spot in the March to May. Although the playoff schedule is yet to be determined, Seals fans can go ahead and mark their calendars to hold Friday, May 5th for a potential first round game at home.

The Seals travel to Las Vegas next week to take on the Desert Dogs at Michelob Ultra Arena on Saturday, April 8. Want to join in on the action?
