(SAN DIEGO, Calif.) Â Mark Ughy scored in his fourth consecutive game of the season and jump-started the Sockers' offense in their win Friday night against MISL newcomers the Monterrey Tigres, 10-2. The Sockers (2-2) host the St. Louis Steamers next Friday, Nov. 5 at the Sports Arena at 7 p.m.
Ughy's first of two goals came off a Braeden Cloutier assist at 9:38 in the first (1-0). Ughy is on a scoring streak, tallying a goal in every game so far this season, and leads the League with seven goals. Tigres midfielder Marco Coria scored the equalizer at 13:48 in the first, off the assist by Marco Lopez (1-1). The Tigres played in their first game since joining the MISL after the deactivation of the Monterrey Fury this past week. The Monterrey roster boasts a number of indoor veterans, including former Socker Alejandro Cardenas.
Early in the second, rookie Herculez Gomez scored his second goal of the season (1:19), assisted by Mark Ughy to put the Sockers up 2-1. The Sockers never trailed after that goal. Brazilian newcomer, Hewerton, blasted the game-winning goal past Tigres goalie Hector Mireles at 9:10 (3-1). Mariano Bollella, with six seconds left in the half, tallied an insurance goal with the assist going to Nevio Pizzolitto (4-1).
After the half, Monterrey showed signs of a rally with a quick goal by Alejandro Moreno at 2:08 (4-2). That rally ended with Ughy¹s second goal in the contest at 3:58, assisted by Victor Nogueira (5-2). The Sockers went on to score five unanswered goals: two by Steve Butcher, another by Gomez and Hewerton, and Suad "Ziggy" Arnautovic.
Monterrey goalie Mireles saved 13 of 23 shots faced. The Monterrey defense logged only six blocks collectively with Marco Coria leading the team with two. Between the pipes for San Diego, Victor Nogueira saved 12 of 14 shots and Sean Bowers had four blocks in the game.
