Chicago Storm News Release

Milwaukee (Friday, October 29, 2004) – The Chicago Storm (1-1) won their first game in the history of the organization as they defeated the Milwaukee Wave (1- 1), 9-8 in overtime at the U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee, Wisc. Newly signed Storm defender/midfielder Ryan Futagaki scored the game-winner in the extra stanza to finish a day that started with him signing a contract with the team. Storm forward Jorge Valle lead the way for the "Yellow and Black" by recording the first-ever hat trick in Storm history.

In overtime, the Storm took advantage of a foul deep in Milwaukee territory. Futagaki laid off a freekick to forward Byron Alvarez. The Mexican international found the UCLA product with a pass and his shot hit Milwaukee goalkeeper Dan Green and went over the goal line to give the Storm the first win in team history at 4:33 of the overtime.

In the first quarter, Milwaukee got off to a quick start scoring 23 seconds into the game off an unassisted restart goal from Wave defender Matt Schmidt. The Wave did not let up as they scored two more goals on from Michael King and Troy Dusosky, putting the Wave up 3-0 with a little over two minutes left in the quarter. The Storm finally got on the board at the 13:00 minute mark when Valle scored the first of his three goals on an assist from defender Gaston Pernia. Valle gathered a pass off the boards in the right corner and slid a shot past Green to cut into the Wave lead.

The Storm continued to fight back, scoring the first two goals in the second quarter. Argentine defender/midfielder Leo Pernia one-timed a pass from Chris Carrieri in the center of the box and blasted the shot past a helpless Green. The "Yellow and Black" tied the score 3-3 after Sandre Naumoski centered a pass, but a Milwaukee defender deflected it into the net. Milwaukee broke the tie when Todd Dusosky gathered a loose ball at the top of the arch and recorded his first goal of the game. However, with a little over three minutes left to play in the half, Alvarez was tripped up in the box by Wave defender Pat White. A penalty kick was awarded to Alvarez, who proceeded to blast a shot past Green to tie the game 4-4 at halftime.

The Storm and Wave traded goals in the third, with Greg Howes of the Wave scoring first and putting the team up 5-4. Storm defender Lazo Alavanja answered right back, recording his first goal of the season after gathering a missed shot and blasting it past Green. The next two goals came from the Wave after Troy Dusosky and Chris Mormon found the back of the net, putting Milwaukee up 7-5. However, the Storm ended up knotting the score 7-7 after Valle completed his hat-trick with back–to-back goals with just over a minute left to play in the third.

The two teams battled in the last quarter that featured only two goals coming with under 1:00 left to play. Troy Dusosky scored first with 44 seconds left in the game. The Storm battled back and Carrieri recorded his first goal of the season on a bicycle kick from 10 yards out with only 10 seconds remaining to tied the game 8-8 and send it into overtime.

Storm goalkeeper Danny Waltman made 19 saves in his MISL debut with three coming in overtime, including a point-blank foot save on a shot by King.

The Storm will return to the UIC Pavilion on Wednesday, November 3 to face the Cleveland Force at 7:00 p.m. CT. The game can be heard live on www.chicagostorm.net.
