San Antonio FC Stays Unbeaten After 2-0 Win over FC Tulsa

August 23, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
San Antonio FC News Release

SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio FC (6-0-3) beat FC Tulsa (2-1-4) 2-0 at Toyota Field on Saturday night. Goals from Luis Solignac and Ignacio Bailone earned the Alamo City club a win at home to become the only remaining undefeated team in USL Championship Group D.

"I think we created a number of opportunities in high goal-scoring percentage areas of the field," said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. "I think we have to be a little more ruthless with that final action. In the first half we could have been up by a couple goals. Hats off to Tulsa, they competed and fought. It's a very good team and they are very well coached, but we were able to get the three points."

SAFC opened the scoring in the 42nd minute after a handball inside the visitors' box resulted in a penalty kick, which Solignac converted from the spot for the 1-0 lead while scoring his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

The hosts then doubled their lead in the 89th minute after Bailone capitalized on a defensive error and buried a shot past goalkeeper Sean Lewis. The goal marked the Argentina native's second for the club.

San Antonio native Matthew Cardone recorded two saves on the night to record his second consecutive clean sheet and third overall this season. With the shutout, Cardone set a new SAFC all-time shutout record with 17 to his name since the club's 2016 inaugural season.

Local teenager Jose Gallegos earned SWBC Man of the Match honors on the night after recording four shots, two shots on target, an 83.3 percent passing accuracy, and three chances created on the night. On the defensive end, midfielder PC recorded a team-leading five tackles and 18 possessions gained while defender Mitchell Taintor led with three clearances and four interceptions.

After five matches in 14 days, the Alamo City club will return to USL Championship action on Friday, Aug. 28 at 8 p.m. as the club visits Rio Grande Valley FC for the clubs' third matchup of the campaign.
