San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio FC has signed midfielder Mohamed Omar, pending league and federation approval. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"We are pleased to add Mohamed to the team," said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. "He provides us with a physical presence in the center of the field, the on-ball ability to provoke pressure and find a free player, and has tremendous upside and potential. He has also already demonstrated character and leadership qualities, and we look forward to having him in San Antonio."
A native of Toronto, Ontario, Omar has spent the past two seasons playing for HFX Wanderers FC in the Canadian Premier League. Last season, he appeared in a total of 27 matches, registering 1,649 minutes. In 2022 Omar saw action in 17 matches for the Wanderers.
Originally selected by the Colorado Rapids in the first round (23rd overall) at the 2022 MLS SuperDraft, Omar attended pre-season with Colorado, before then joining HFX.
During the 2019 season, Omar played with Chicago FC United in USL League Two appearing in nine matches, collecting one goal. Omar spent part of the 2018 season with Toronto FC III in League 1 Ontario registering six appearances. In the same year he attended training camp with the Canadian U-20 national team.
Omar played collegiately at the University of Notre Dame from 2018-21. In his senior year in 2021, he was named team captain and helped the Fighting Irish to the semifinals of the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament.
With the addition of Omar, the San Antonio FC 2024 roster currently stands at 10, including goalkeeper Jordan Farr; defenders Connor Maloney, Carter Manley, Mitchell Taintor, Fabien Garcia and Shannon Gomez; midfielders Mohammed Abu and Jorge Hernandez; and forward Santiago Patino.
