San Antonio FC Signs Midfielder Juan Ni?o

SAN ANTONIO, TX (Feb. 16, 2017) - San Antonio FC has signed midfielder and Texas native Juan Niño for the upcoming 2017 USL season pending league and federation approval, the club announced today.

Niño joins San Antonio FC after impressing during his time on trial with the club during the 2017 preseason. The 26-year-old joins from Colombia where he played for Barranquilla in 2016, totaling 570 minutes over 10 appearances. Niño also spent time with Colombian first division club Atletico Huila from 2015-16 where he made 29 appearances over two seasons, playing 1889 total minutes.

"Juan came into preseason camp and impressed the coaching staff," said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. "He brings a positive attitude every day and shows good character. He played well in the preseason game and showed good quality on the ball. We're really excited to have him on the team."

Niño has also previously spent time in the USL, playing for the Charlotte Eagles in 2013 while helping his squad reach the 2013 USL Championship where they fell to Orlando City SC 7-4 in front of a record crowd. The midfielder spent four years playing collegiate soccer for Liberty University from 2008-11 while also previously spending time in the Houston Dynamo (MLS) Academy.

"I'm really happy to be back in the states and close to home with San Antonio FC," said Niño. "First and foremost, I have been very impressed with the organization and the way that its run from the coaching staff, to the players to the front office. It's been really impressive and I am just happy to be a part of it. Hopefully we can take the team to the playoffs this season and win a championship."
