San Antonio FC News Release
Match Marks First Visit to the Alamo City for Timbers 2
SAN ANTONIO, TX (Oct. 10, 2017) - San Antonio FC (15-4-11) will host Portland Timbers 2 (3-21-6 at Toyota Field on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the club's final Bud Light $1 Drink Night of the regular season. A win on Wednesday would lock a home first-round playoff match for the Silver and Black.
The match will mark the second for SAFC in the span of eight days. The club earned a 1-1 draw against the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday with a late equalizer from Ever Guzman, and will look to earn three points at home. A win on Wednesday would lock a first-round playoff match at home for the Alamo City club and at least a third-place finish in the USL regular season.
Should SAFC earn a win, the club's minimum point total for the season would increase to 59 while both Phoenix Rising FC and Swope Park Ranger's maximum possible total for the season is 58. SAFC would then have a chance to secure the second seed in the West with a win on Saturday as well.
The Timbers 2 are currently in last place in the West, earning 15 points so far this season and conceding 57 goals while scoring just 25 despite posting 115 shots on target. The club has also conceded 12 penalties in 2017, and earned four clean sheets. Of their 20 losses this season, 12 have come by a margin of just one goal.
Earlier this season, SAFC handed Portland their second-biggest loss of the season, beating the Timbers 4-0 on the road with goals from Billy Forbes, Zach Herivaux, and a brace from Cesar Elizondo. Last season, the two clubs played to a 1-1 draw in Portland.
Wednesday's match will mark the second of three for the Silver and Black in the span of eight days. The club will then conclude the regular season at Toyota Field on Saturday as they host RGV FC in the third edition of the South Texas Derby this season, presented by Augie's Smoke House.
