San Antonio Commanders News Release

TODAY'S NEWS

The 2019 San Antonio Commanders held its 11th of 22 Training Camp practices on Wednesday at Central Catholic High School's Bob Benson '66 Stadium.

The practice started at 11:30 a.m. and finished shortly before 1:15 p.m. with the players wearing shells (shoulder pads and helmets).

The practice session was at full speed with limited contact.

Much of the focus of the day was the passing game and defensive coverages.

The play of the day came from cornerback Jordan Thomas (Oklahoma) and safety Derron Smith (Fresno State). In a 7-on-7 drill, Thomas broke up a pass on the right sideline, knocking the ball in the air. Stewart came over and made an off-balance, one-handed interception and was able to get both feet inbounds.

Also collecting an interception on the day was linebacker Nick Temple (Cincinnati) as he jumped a circus route.

On the offensive side, recently acquired wide receiver Greg Ward Jr. (Houston) showed his speed on an end-around, breaking free into the secondary.

Also drawing remarks from defensive players for his athleticism was quarterback Dalton Sturm (UTSA). Sturm scrambled on a play and broke free down the sideline for a first down after a juke move created space to the outside.

In transactions, the Commanders waived offensive lineman Avery Gennesy.

The Commanders added offensive lineman Dillon DeBoer (Florida Atlantic) to the active roster. San Antonio's roster is at 75 players.

Dillon DeBoer

Appeared in 46 career games along the offensive line in four seasons at Florida Atlantic University ... played center, both guard positions and left tackle in senior season of 2016, earning All-Conference USA and FAU's team offensive MVP honors ... undrafted in 2017 NFL Draft.

In front office news, the Commanders announced a partnership with San Antonio-based grocer H-E-B. The partnership includes H-E-B being the presenting partner for the Commanders' inaugural game on February 9. (full release)
