TODAY'S NEWS
The 2019 San Antonio Commanders held its 16th of 22 Training Camp practices on Tuesday at Dub Farris Athletic Complex. The session was a joint practice with the Atlanta Legends.
The practice session was at full speed with contact, although tackles were not completed to the ground.
After the teams went through individual warmups and 7-on-7, the full teams came together for the remainder of the practice for 11-on-11.
Standing out on the day for the Commanders defense were cornerbacks Zack Sanchez and Jordan Thomas as both broke up passes in man coverage. Linebacker Jaboree Williams looked strong against the run as he made two stops at the line of scrimmage, while linebacker Austin Larkin had two QB pressures that would have been a sack and a tackle for loss. Defensive lineman Winston Craig also made two plays behind the line on run plays.
On the offensive side, standouts included running backs Trey Williams, Kenneth Farrow II and David Cobb with their physical running styles as all three broke several tackles. Tight end Cole Hunt had an impressive grab on a 15-yard route, then carried an Atlanta player several yards before going out of bounds. Showing his legs in addition to his arm was quarterback Dustin Vaughan as he ran untouched for 20 yards on a naked bootleg.
In transactions, San Antonio has waived running back Henry Poggi and added linebacker Tyrone Holmes to the active roster.
Tyrone Holmes
Drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars 181st overall in 2016 NFL Draft ... played in 15 career NFL games with the Cleveland Browns between 2016 and 2017, totaling nine total tackles and 1.0 sack ... signed to Los Angeles Chargers' practice squad in December 2018... totaled 212 tackles (72 solo, 142 assisted) in four seasons at the University of Montana ... had 34.5 sacks and a school-record 49.5 tackles for loss ... named the 2015 STATS FCS Defensive Player of the Year and named to four separate All-American teams as a senior.
