‚¬Â¢ Houston won first matchup in week three 22-13

‚¬Â¢ Houston is first place in the South Division while San Antonio sits in third place

HOME SWEET HOME

The San Antonio Brahmas return home in week eight for the first of a three-game homestand to end the regular season at the Alamodome. The Brahmas look to even the series against South Division rival Houston. The Roughnecks won the week three match-up 22-13. Houston opened the season with a four-game winning streak, but have since dropped three games in a row.

DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE

Entering week eight, the Brahmas have surrendered only 114 points on the season and leads the XFL in scoring defense. Through seven weeks, San Antonio has allowed an average of only 16.3 points per game and is leading the XFL in tackles for loss with 52. The Brahmas defense also has compiled 15.0 sacks so far this season, third-best in the league.

STAYING ALIVE

With each team in the South Divison separated by just one game, the Brahmas are very much still alive for the South Division Championship Game. San Antonio can move to 1-1 against the Roughnecks with a win which would give the Brahmas a win over each team in the division with just one division game against Orlando remaining. A Houston win on Sunday would clinch a spot in the South Division Championship Game for the Roughnecks.

DISSECTING THE LINES

So far this season, the San Antonio Brahmas are 2-4-1 against the spread, covering against Orlando in week two and then again in week six against Arlington. In their previous matchup against Houston in week three, Houston covered the -4 spread with a nine-point victory and the under hit on an O/U of 36.5. For the week eight matchup, Houston is favored by a spread of -4.0 and the O/U is 41.

BROWN MAKES HISTORY

Brahmas receiver Fred Brown made history in the Brahmas week seven game against Vegas when he returned a kickoff 96-yards for a touchdown. Brown's electric return was the first kickoff return for a touchdown in XFL history. Brown was responsible for all 12 of San Antonio's points in week seven, as he also hauled in a one-yard TD reception in the first quarter.

LIVING BEHIND THE LINE

The Brahmas still managed to rack up 9.0 tackles for loss in the loss against the Vegas Vipers. Tackles for loss have become a staple of the San Antonio defense as they lead the XFL in tackles behind the line of scrimmage (62). Linebacker Jordan Williams is tied for the league lead in tackles for loss (10.0) while defensive end Delontae Scott is ranked third (8.0). Williams is also the XFL's overall leading tackler with 65 total tackles thus far.

BIG LEG BRAHMAS

San Antonio's specialists kicker Parker Romo, punter Brad Wing and longsnapper Rex Sunahara has turned out to be one of the best units in the XFL this season. Romo showed off his leg when he drilled an XFL record 57-yard field goal with room to spare at Seattle. Wing had an XFL best 72-yard punt against Vegas. Romo is 10-of-11 on field goal attempts, with his only miss being in week one. He has made seven field goals of 40+ yards.

Wing is averaging an XFL-best 47.6 yards per punt and is tied for second best in punts downed inside the 20 with nine.

THE STANDARD IS THE STANDARD

San Antonio Brahmas Head Coach Hines Ward likes to say "The Standard is the Standard ‚¬Â, which is something he learned while he was with the Pittsburgh Steelers. It's a saying throughout that organization. Ward added some of that standard to the Brahmas roster. Besides linebackers coach Joey Porter, Ward manage to add five players who either played for the Steelers or experienced training camp or preseason.

The most experienced former Steeler on the Brahmas is punter Brad Wing. Wing saw action in 17 games for the Black & Gold in 2014 as a starter. He also played in the 2014 Wildcard Game against the Ravens. Wing averaged 43.7 yards on 61 punts for the Steelers. His net was 38.6 yards per punt.
