Tampa Bay Storm News Release

TAMPA BAY - The Arena Football League has announced that wide receiver/linebacker Lawrence Samuels has been named AFL Ironman of the Week for his performance in Tampa Bay's 59-50 victory against the Arizona Rattlers.

Samuels, 6-foot-2, 220-pounds, is in his 13th season with the Tampa Bay Storm and his 14th overall. He scored two touchdowns and intercepted one pass to help lock down the win on Friday. He also made four tackles including one for a loss while starting as the jack linebacker on the way to earning Ironman of the Game honors.

Samuels interception during the Rattlers first possession of the second quarter propelled the Storm to outscore Arizona 28-20 in the quarter and take a 38-34 lead into the half. During Tampa Bay's final series of the game Samuels converted three consecutive first downs to allow the Storm's offense to maintain possession and run out the clock.

"We are proud of Lawrence," said Storm Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum. "He is a consummate professional and is big part of the success of this franchise."

Other weekly winners included New York Dragons' quarterback Aaron Garcia (Offensive Player) and Philadelphia Soul's lineman Dwayne Missouri (ADT Defensive).

Ironman of the Week candidates included Tampa Bay's T.T. Toliver, Nashville's Ahmad Hawkins, Colorado's Jason Harmon, Philadelphia's Jerrian James, and Los Angeles' Robert Quiroga.

The 2007 Storm season, presented by Champs Sports, Where Sports Lives, returns to action at the St. Pete Times Forum Saturday, June 9 at 7:30 p.m. EST as the Tampa Bay Storm host their National Conference rival Philadelphia Soul.
