Sampson-Led Missions Take Care of Hooks Again

Another strong start by Keyvius Sampson and some timely hitting lifted San Antonio to a 4-1, series-clinching win over Corpus Christi Tuesday night at Wolff Stadium.
The Missions got off to a good start in the contest, taking a 1-0 lead in the first against Hooks' starter Mike Foltynewicz (5-2) courtesy of a Tommy Medica RBI single to left center.
Corpus Christi tied the game in the third with a Ronny Torreyes RBI single off Sampson, ending the right-hander's club-high scoreless streak at 20 innings. San Antonio retook the lead in the bottom of the frame on Yeison Asencio's two-run double down the left-field line.
Asencio's go-ahead hit proved to be enough for Sampson, who picked up his club-high, seventh straight win after allowing just one run on three hits, while striking out five in six innings of work. Sampson (9-4) has not lost a game since June 2, a span of 11 games (10 starts).
Rico Noel capped the game's scoring in the eighth with an RBI double to left off reliever Andrew Robinson.
Relievers Jeff Ibarra and Jeremy McBryde (7th save) finished off the San Antonio victory with three scoreless innings of two-hit ball. The win increased the Missions' lead in the South Division, second-half standings to two games over the Hooks and moved the team to a season-high, 16 games over .500.
San Antonio (62-46, 24-15) and Corpus Christi (64-45, 22-17) wrap up their three-game series Wednesday on Military Appreciation Night presented by Air Force Federal Credit Union. Josh Geer (6-3, 3.17) will get the ball for the Missions, while the Hooks counter with David Martinez (12-2, 1.98). First pitch is set for 7:05 PM.
