Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
LAKELAND, FL - The Fort Myers Miracle have yet to figure out the Lakeland Tigers losing for the ninth time in 12 tries against the best team in the Florida State League, this time 4-2 at Joker Marchant Stadium on Friday night.
The Miracle entered play one game behind the Tigers for the Western Division lead, but the Tigers used solid pitching and timely hits in defeating the Miracle. In the second Anthony Swarzak walked lead off batter Eric Rodland. Kody Kirkland doubled to left that put runners at second and third. Danilo Sanchez' sac fly scored Rodland and with two outs Gilberto Mejia's singled scored Kirkland.
The Tigers got solo homers from Sanchez in the fourth, his 17th of the season and a solo shot from Garth McKinney in the seventh, his 20th of the year.
The Miracle, who managed just four hits on the evening, avoided the shutout in the ninth. Jose Leger, who singled in the second to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, led off with a walk. Justin Arneson blasted a two run home run over the left-center field wall, his second of the season. Ron Perodin followed with a walk, but the next three batters were retired.
Swarzak went 4.2 innings allowing three runs on six hits while walking three and striking out five. Angelo Fermin's single in the third and Matt Tolbert's double in the fifth were the only other hits for the Miracle.
The same two teams meet Saturday night at Joker Marchant Stadium at 6:00 p.m. The Miracle send RHP Adam Harben (8-5, 2.59) to the hill against Tiger RHP Nathan Bumstead (11-2, 3.45).
