Reading Express News Release

Reading, PA Reading native and former Reading Express standout, Sam Bryant, is coming out of retirement to join the 2012 Express team.

Bryant was a member of the 2009 championship team when the express was in the AIFA. He played the following season and then retired. During his championship season he had

six interceptions, 17 pass break-ups, 38 solo tackles, and four assisted tackles. On special teams, Bryant averaged 24.7 kickoff return yards.

Bryant is a 2002 graduate of Reading High School and then went on to the University of Pittsburgh. During his senior year at Pittsburgh he recorded three interceptions and 40 tackles.

After the first two losses the Express experienced this season, Bryant was itching to get back into the game.

"I felt like I could still compete at a higher level," Bryant said. "I knew I could help the team and I really just wanted to play."

A leader in previous seasons, Bryant brings a lot of experience to this young Express team.

"I bring leadership to this Express team," Bryant said. "I have knowledge of the game and a high level of skill to help make everyone around me better."

As a veteran to the game and the second oldest guy on the team, the younger men on the team are really looking to Bryant for direction.

"I have a bigger role now than ever. The guys really look up to me and know that they can come to me with any problems," said Bryant.

Bryant is looking forward to helping to turn this team around back to the winning ways of the Reading Express.
