Salsi Named Captain of Hounds

The Riverhounds FC appointed veteran defender Nathan Salsi as the team captain for the 2006 season on Tuesday.

Salsi returns to the Riverhounds this year for his third season after playing in 18 games, scoring one goal and assisting on two others last year. In 2004, the North Huntington, Pa., native and Norwin High School graduate played in 19 games, scored two goals and had three assists.

"Nathan is an experienced, all-league player, who has the respect of his teammates and coaches," Riverhounds head coach Gene Klein said. "We look for him to provide leadership on and off the field and to push everyone to play at the highest level. As a local guy, he understands the Riverhounds are an integral part of the game's development in this area and he is committed to the franchise."

Prior to his time with the Riverhounds, Salsi played collegiate soccer at Duquesne University where he was a three-year co-captain. During his senior season at Duquesne in 2002, Salsi compiled four goals and five assists as the Dukes finished 13-3-5.

The Riverhounds open the season April 22 at Long Island before returning to Falconi Field to for "A Soccer Weekend in Washington" that includes matches Friday, May 5th against the Harrisburg City Islanders at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday, May 6th at 7:05 p.m. against the Western Mass Pioneers.

Festivities for Friday's game include an appearance by Steelers kicker Jeff Reed and the Traveling Coca-Cola Great Hall, a magnet schedule giveaway, and a special Mexican menu and a fireworks display to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Saturday is PA West Youth Celebration Day and the Riverhounds will honor all moms by giving the first 1,000 women a pink Riverhounds caps to commemorate Mother's Day.
