Salmon Kings announce their second annual fishing derby

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, with support from the Times Colonist, CHTV, 100.3 the Q, and the Zone @ 91.3, present their second annual fishing derby-titled Salmon Hunt 2006.

Salmon Hunt 2006 will be held on August 26th and 27th with a grand prize of $5000 for the biggest salmon caught, $2000 for the second placed weight and $1000 for the third placed weight.

Participants also have a chance to win other top weight prizes or draw prizes. The Oak Bay Marine Group is presenting a getaway for two at Painter's Lodge in Campbell River for the Mystery Weight prize.

Proceeds from Salmon Hunt 2006 will be donated to the Sooke Salmon Enhancement Society through the Salmon Kings Foundation.

"It is important that we support a healthier fishing environment, which is why we are happy to donate proceeds to the Sooke Salmon Enhancement Society," said Tom Billings, Community Relations Manager for the Salmon Kings. "This event is a great opportunity for Salmon Kings fans and avid fishers to come together and kick off a new season of exciting hockey, while giving back to the preservation of our local waters."

Participants can drop their lines anywhere between 10 Mile Point and Sherringham Point in Sooke. The weigh-in will occur at Pedder Bay Marina in Metchosin before the scale closing times. Participants can fish between daybreak and 6:00 pm on Saturday and daybreak until noon on Sunday. The winners will be announced at 1:00 pm on Sunday August 27th at the awards BBQ at Pedder Bay Marina.

Tickets for the derby cost $50 and can be purchased before August 26th at Island Outfitters, Pedder Bay Marina, Sherwood Marine, and the Salmon Kings front office located at Gate #3 of the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
