Kinston Indians News Release

Salem scored a run on an infield hit in the top of the 13th inning as the Red Sox slipped by Kinston 6-5 Thursday night at Historic Grainger Stadium. The K-Tribe wins the series taking two of three from Salem, but falls into a three way tie for first place in the Carolina League Southern Division.

Kinston turned a three run deficit into a one run lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Alex Castillo led off the inning with a solo home run, his second round tripper of the year. Kinston would take the lead on three straight, two-out RBI singles by Matt McBride, Matt Brown and Carlos Rivas. McBride had another huge game going 3-for-6 with two RBI. Cord Phelps, Ronald Rivas and Alex Castillo each had two hits as every K-Tribe batter hit safely in Thursday night's matchup.

Salem would tie the score at five in the top of the eighth inning with a bases loaded RBI ground out to first base. With a runner on third and two-out in the top of the 13th inning, Salem shortstop Kris Negron hit a soft chopper a third of the way up the third base line, pitcher Garrison Campfield fielded cleaning and unloaded the ball, but Negron beat the throw to first and Mike Jones would score the winning run. Campfield (0-1) is the tough luck loser, giving up just one hit and an unearned run in two innings of relief work.

The K-Tribe heads on the road for 10 of their next 13. A seven game roadtrip starts Friday night in Lynchburg, Virginia. Russell Young makes his K-Tribe debut on the mound for the Indians, game time 7:05. Kinston returns home to Grainger stadium on May 8th.
