Frederick Keys News Release

Nothing seemed to go right for the Keys on Tuesday night at Harry Grove Stadium. Salem's Mitch Dening led off the game with a homerun and it was downhill from there. Keys starter, RHP Oliver Drake, surrendered four runs in the first and Frederick did not muster a hit off RHP Miguel Gonzalez until the sixth inning. The Red Sox out hit the Keys by 11 in the 8-1 rout.

Following the leadoff homer by Dening, Salem plated three more runs in the inning on three hits. On the season, Drake has now allowed 19 runs in first inning which equates to an ERA of 11.40.

Frederick did not get a hit in the first as RHP Miguel Gonzalez struck out the side. Gonzalez, who was 0-1 with an ERA of 6.75 in his two starts against Frederick this season, did not allow a hit until C Phillip Britton lined a single into rightfield with one out in the bottom of the sixth.

The Keys scored their lone run of the evening in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, 3B Billy Rowell hit a double off the base of the wall in right field. Following the Rowell double, 2B LJ Hoes hit a ground ball that went underneath the glove of 3B Jon Hee. With men on the corners, DH Miguel Abreu hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield that brought home Rowell for the unearned run against Gonzalez.

Salem starter, Miguel Gonzalez, finished up his stellar evening after 6.2 innings of work. He allowed one unearned run on three hits while striking out, a career-high, nine batters. Gonzalez improved to 6-2 on the season while Frederick starter, Oliver Drake, fell to 2-6 on the year.

The Keys will look to rebound on Wednesday night at Harry Grove Stadium when they send RHP Zach Clark (1-0, 6.10) to the hill. RHP Michael Lee (8-4, 3.71) will start for Salem in the rubbermatch of the three-game series. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. on Belly Buster Wednesday. For just $21 for adults and $18 for children, fans can enjoy a two-hour all-you-can-eat picnic in the Keys picnic pavilion.
