Salazar Named Pitcher of the Month

DURHAM, NC- LHP Richard Salazar of the Rockland Boulders used a 4-0 record in June to earn the Rawlings Pitcher of the Month. In five starts, Salazar struck out 24 in 31.1 innings.

He began his month on June 5 with a win over the American Association's Gary SouthShore RailCats. In 6.1 innings, he allowed two runs and struck out two. Salazar picked up his second win on June 15 at the Ottawa Champions with six innings of five-hit, no-walk baseball while striking out three. Rockland won the game 5-3. Salazar earned another win on June 20 against the Shikoku Island All-Stars, with a month-high seven innings. Salazar allowed just two runs and struck out eight in the Boulders'7-2 win. He earned one more win on June 25 at Ottawa with six innings of work. Salazar fanned six in the 5-4 Rockland win.

On the year, Salazar is now 6-1 with a 2.73 ERA. In 46 innings, he has 42 strikeouts. This is his second season with Rockland, as the Venezuelan went 10-5 with a 3.71 ERA last year.

The Boulders begin a home series with the Garden State Grays on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Provident Bank Park in Pomona, N.Y. That game, like all Can-Am League games, will be available live and for free at www.canamleague.tv.
