Saints Win Streak Snapped at Five in 8-4 Loss to Goldeyes

ST. PAUL, MN (July 19, 2015) - The usually reliable Kramer Sneed had his first rough outing of the season as the Winnipeg Goldeyes new look offense came out swinging. Consequently, the Saints five game winning streak came to an end in an 8-4 loss to the Goldeyes in front of 8,186 at CHS field on Sunday evening.

Sneed, who has had issues in the first inning this season, was touched up for a couple of runs right off the bat. Adam Heisler led off with a single and was sacrificed to second. After a walk to Casey Haerther, Reggie Abercrombie made it 1-0 with an RBI single. Two batters later Brad Boyer made it 2-0 with an RBI single.

The Saints tied it in the second as Angelo Songco led off with a triple. He scored on an RBI groundout from Mike Kvasnicka to make it 2-1. Joey Paciorek followed with a single and, with two outs, Ryan Lashley tied it up with an RBI double.

The Goldeyes, however, answered with five consecutive runs in the third and fourth innings. With one out in the third Abercrombie singled. With two outs he stole second and scored on a single by Boyer to make it 3-2 Goldeyes. Ryan Babineau made it 4-2 with an RBI double.

In the fourth Chris Robinson led off with a triple that center fielder Alonzo Harris lost in the sun. Heisler followed with an RBI triple of his own to make it 5-2. He would score on a sacrifice fly from Haerther to make it 6-2. With two outs Abercrombie drilled a solo homer to left, his first since joining the Goldeyes, to make it 7-2. Sneed went a season low 4.0 innings allowing a season high seven runs on 10 hits and ended his seven game win streak as he fell to 9-2.

The Saints attempted to comeback in the sixth as Joey Paciorek and Anthony Phillips had back-to-back singles with one out. With two outs Dan Kaczrowski walked to load the bases. Alonzo Harris dropped a two-run single into center to make it 7-4.

In the seventh the Saints threatened again when Vinny DiFazio and Songco led off with back-to-back singles. Kvasnicka reached on a fielder's choice that put runners at the corners with one out, but Paciorek grounded into an inning ending double play.

The same two teams meet in game two of the four game series Monday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Jeff Shields (8-0, 3.05) to the mound against RHP Tony Smith (3-1, 2.93). It is Larry Doby Night presented by Central Bank. The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network, cable access channels in the Twin Cities area, heard on Club 1220 KLBB and in the ballpark on 97.9 FM.
