St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN - The St. Paul Saints today announced that they have purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Jamie Tricoglou from the St. Joseph Blacksnakes.
In 43 appearances for St. Joseph in 2006, Tricoglou, 26, compiled a 5-3 record and a 2.52 earned run average.
After three starts to begin the season, Tricoglou became the Blacksnakes closer in early June. In 47 2/3 innings as a reliever, Tricoglou allowed just seven earned runs (1.32 ERA) and saved 19 games, tied for third-most in the American Association.
"He quickly became one of the best closers in the league," Saints manager George Tsamis said. "I really liked the way he handles himself on the mound. He has an excellent fastball and he goes right after the hitters."
The Hixson, TN resident, who played collegiate baseball at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the sixth round of the 2001 June amateur draft.
"When I talked to Jamie, he told me how excited he was to be coming to St. Paul," Tsamis said. "He loved pitching here last season, and he talked about how important it was to have the opportunity to win a championship."
The Saints open the 2007 season Thursday, May 10 in St. Joseph, MO. The home opener is scheduled for Monday, May 14 at Midway Stadium versus the Sioux City Explorers.
