St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN (June 10, 2007) - The St. Paul Saints remained winless when they've had an opportunity to sweep a series losing 11-3 on Sunday afternoon at Midway Stadium in front of 6,242.
This was the fifth time the Saints had a chance to sweep a series and the fourth time that they lost by more than five runs in those contests. The Canaries left no doubt on Sunday scoring nine runs in the second through fourth innings. James Shanks doubled home two runs in the second inning to give the Canaries a 2-0 lead.
In the third, Abner Arroyo led off with a single and with one out Will Smith walked. With two outs Matt Imwalle clubbed a three-run homer to left, his seventh of the season.
The Canaries added four more in the fourth on a two-run single from Arroyo and a two-run bomb from Wil Quintana, his league leading eighth of the season.
The Canaries got a solid pitching performance from former Twin Pat Mahomes who went 6.0 innings allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits while walking three and striking out seven.
The Saints lone bright spot came in the sixth inning. Adam Olow reached on third baseman Imwalle's error. Marcel Longmire walked to put runners at first and second. Brian Sprout doubled down the third baseline to put the Saints on the board. Brent Krause added a sac fly and Ryan Gripp singled home the third run of the inning.
The Saints welcome the Linclon Saltdogs into town on Monday at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send LHP Jake Postlewait (4-2, 3.19) to the mound. The game is simulcast on the Saints Cable Network and on KBGY 107.5 FM. The Saints welcome former pitcher Ila Borders back as part of the 15th Anniversary Celebration.
