Saints, Hodge and Run 4 Troops Raise over $17,000 During Military Appreciation Month

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Dubuque Fighting Saints, Hodge and Run 4 Troops teamed up to help raise over $17,000 during Military Appreciation Month. The generous donations from the Saints fans, through the 50/50 Raffle all month and the postgame jersey auction on November 16th, helped raise a grand total of $17,340. All of the proceeds will go back to the Veterans Freedom Center in Dubuque which provides a place for veterans to interact with fellow veterans, network together and enjoy the camaraderie that all have shared while proudly serving their country.

"Our mission for Run4Troops is to support our local military and give back to the men and women who have given so much to us," said Connie Hodge, Run4Troops race director. "We're proud of our community for showing up to recognize our veterans and active military members, and it was great to cheer on our local hockey team for a great cause."

The Saints have held a Military Appreciation night every year since returning to Dubuque. This was the first season that the Saints have rolled out a Military Appreciation month thanks to Hodge and Run 4 Troops.

"The Fighting Saints would like to thank Hodge and Run4Troops for their partnership with Military Appreciation Month," said VP of Corporate Partnerships, Casey Weitz. "Military Appreciation Night is always special, and the amount of money raised every year by our fans goes to show their passion for such a great cause with the Veteran's Freedom Center. It's the least we can do for the men and women that serve or have served our country."

Not only were both the jersey auction and the 50/50 Raffle a huge success, but the Saints shattered a record in terms of the jersey auction. Erik Portillo's military jersey sold for a total of $4,100, the highest single jersey sold since the Fighting Saints started doing jersey auctions.

All told, it was another Military Appreciation night auction that eclipsed the $15,000 mark with all the proceeds heading to the VFC.
