Saints Dominate RailCats in 15-2 Victory

ST. PAUL, MN - Over the course of a 100 game season there are going to be games like Friday night's at CHS Field. A night where each hitter is on top of his game, the pitching is superb and the other team doesn't stand a chance. For the St. Paul Saints they had it all going in a 15-2 victory over the Gary SouthShore Railcats in front of 8,388 to improve to 23-4 on the season.

The highest scoring team in the league produced their highest run and hit total on the season pounding out 17 hits, six of them coming in an eight run first inning. Alonzo Harris led off with a single to left, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly by Willie Argo to make it 1-0. The Saints would score seven more runs all with two outs. Ian Gac walked, Angelo Songco singled and Vinny DiFazio walked to load the bases. Joey Paciorek followed with a two-run double to make it 3-0. Steve Nikorak's two-run single made it 5-0. After Anthony Phillips singled to put runners at first and second, Harris came up for the second time in the inning and hit a three-run homer to left, his third of the season, to make it 8-0. Harris finished the night 3-4 with a career tying high four RBI and four runs scored.

In the fourth the Saints made it 10-1 when Phillips singled and Harris walked. With one out Argo doubled home the pair. Argo collected three RBI on the night.

With the Saints up 11-1 in the sixth the hottest hitter in the Saints lineup, DiFazio, set a career high when he collected an RBI in his eighth straight game. His bad hop single off the glove of third baseman Roger Bernal scored Songco to make it 12-1. DiFazio's hit extended his hitting streak to eight straight games as he went 2-3 with three RBI and is now 13 for his last 18.

One hitting streak did come to an end as Gac went 0-4 and his Saints season high 15 game hitting streak was halted.

Saints starter Pedro Hernandez went 7.0 innings allowing two runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out four to improve to 4-1.

The same two teams meet in game two of the three game series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at CHS Field The Saints send RHP Robert Coe (3-0, 1.69) to the mound against Railcats LHP Andy Roberts (0-2, 4.07). It is 'Merica Night presented by Discount Tire. The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network, cable access channels in the Twin Cities, and heard on SportsRadio 105 The Ticket and in the ballpark on 97.9 FM.
