St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - The largest weekend of the year for Twin Cities Pride takes place in Minneapolis with a two day event complete with a festival and parade. For the first time in the events history, however, it will begin in St. Paul as the St. Paul Saints and TC Pride have teamed up for the first of its kind event for the two organizations.

For the first time ever TC Pride will be an official corporate partner with a professional sports team when the Saints and pride team up on Friday night, June 24. Pride weekend will kick-off at CHS Field with a game, presented by TC Pride, between the Saints and Winnipeg Goldeyes. The Saints will don rainbow uniforms with proceeds from the auction of the jersey's going toward Pride.

The first 1,000 fans entering through the gates that night will receive rainbow flags. Throughout the season Friday night games will be followed by a fireworks show, presented by Xcel Energy, and will be accompanied by a musical theme. The musical accompaniment for this night will be the songs of Queen.

"LGBTQ communities across our state and country have historically experienced significant intolerance and marginalization in sports culture," said Twin Cities Pride Executive Director, Dot Belstler. "Twin Cities Pride is proud to partner with the St. Paul Saints as they recognize and seek to support and amplify LGBTQ voices!"

Pride weekend continues on Saturday, June 25 with an all-day free festival in Loring Park in Minneapolis and concludes on Sunday, June 26 with the 2016 Ashley Rukes GLBT Pride Parade beginning at 3rd Street and Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis at 11 a.m.

Twin Cities Pride brings the greater GLBT community together to commemorate their diverse heritage, foster inclusion, educate and create awareness of issues, and celebrate achievement in equality. They create events that are open and inviting to everyone in the community, providing a safe environment in which individuals feel free to celebrate relationships.
