Saints Add Hodgson, Lose Moffat

San Angelo Saints News Release

SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo Saints made a couple more player moves today as the team’s defensive corps continues to be wracked by injuries. Veteran defenseman Corri Moffat was put on the 14-day Injured Reserve today after aggravating a previous minor injury in practice this week. With defensemen Konrad Brand and John Jarram already on Injured Reserve, Moffat’s injury left the Saints with only four healthy defensemen. To bolster that unit, today the Saints have signed defenseman Gavin Hodgson.

Hodgson started this season with the Rockford Ice Hogs of the United Hockey League where he notched 1 assist and 52 penalty minutes in 33 games. He previously played in San Angelo during the 2000-2001 season where he put up his career highs for points (6) and penalty minutes (96). The native of Midland, Ontario is regarded as a steady, stay-at-home defenseman who will also add some size (6-3, 210 lbs) to the Saints defensive unit. Hodgson will be in the line-up this weekend when the Saints host the Lubbock Cotton Kings on Friday night and the Corpus Christi Rayz on Saturday.

Brand is eligible to come off the Injured Reserve, but his return is not expected for at least a week. Jarram has been moved to the 45-day IR and will miss much of the rest of the season. The earliest Moffat will be back in uniform is for the SaintsÂ’ game against Laredo on January 30th.

***Meanwhile, Saints forward Chris Minard, defenseman Derek Booth and goaltender Scott Reid are all participating in All-Star activities today in Albuquerque, NM. All three will compete in various events during the Comcast All-Star Skills Competition that starts at 6 p.m. MST and then in the Dodge CHL All-Star Game at 7:30 p.m. MST.
