The Mississauga Steelheads travelled to the Dow Event Center as the Saginaw Spirit played host to the Eastern Conference team in their second match up of the 2014-15 regular season. The Saginaw Spirit fell to the Mississauga Steelheads 5-2 on Saturday night.

The Saginaw Spirit and Mississauga Steelheads turned in a fast paced first period, putting the large Spirit crowd at the edge of their seats. Just 4:22 into the first period Jacob Ringuette netted a beautiful goal, giving way to the Spirit's first lead of the night. Dylan Sadowy and Mitchell Stephens took the assists on Ringuette's 7th goal of the season. Shortly after Mississauga tallied their first goal and tied the game off the stick of Stefan LeBlanc with the help of Josh Burnside and Sam Babinstev at the 4:51 mark. The Spirit moved to the power play toward the midway part of the period, which gave Saginaw the opportunity to reinstate a one-goal lead. Dylan Sadowy netted his 34th goal of the season for the Spirit at 13:39 of the period, with Jesse Barwell and Mitchell Stephens on the assists, making it a 2-1 game over Mississauga. The Steelheads scored two more times before the end of the period, with Jimmy Lodge tying the score and Brandon Devlin taking the 3-2 lead for the visiting team. Shots on goal favored Saginaw in the first period, with the shot clock reading Spirit 19, Steelheads 14.

The Mississauga Steelheads cushioned their lead at the 13:23 mark, recording the lone goal of the second period. Nathan Bastian scored the goal that made it a 4-2 game, with assists coming from Michael McLeod and Bobby MacIntyre. The Saginaw Spirit were stuck in a bit of deadlock in the second period, fighting hard to beat Mississauga's starting goaltender Jacob Brennan. Shots on goal during the second period favored the home team, with the Spirit outshooting the Steelheads 19-15.

The Steelheads silenced the Spirit crowd when Mississauga's Bryson Cianfrone netted a power play goal at 3:06 of the third period. Josh Burnside and Sam Babinstev were credited with the assists on the play. The Spirit and the Steelheads did not see another goal before the final buzzer sounded, leaving the scoreboard to read 5-2 in favor of the opposing team. Final shots on goal favored the Saginaw Spirit 42-34.

Saginaw will play host to their Michigan opponent, the Plymouth Whalers, on Wednesday February 11th at the Dow Event Center to start off the week at home for the Spirit. Puck is scheduled to drop at 7:11 p.m. Saginaw will see two more home games before the end of the week, starting with Sault Ste. Marie on Friday and the Barrie Colts on Saturday.
