2006 Sacramento Monarchs All-Decade Team

In recognition of the Sacramento Monarchs 10th Anniversary the franchise will honor past and present team members with an All-Decade Team as voted on by selected members of the Sacramento Media. The 2006 Sacramento Monarchs All-Decade Team will consist of 10 Monarchs players split into a First Team and a Second Team and will be announced the week of June 19th and will be honored during the Monarchs 10th Anniversary Celebration Game on July 15th vs. the Connecticut Sun.

Monarchs/Sky Connections

- The Chicago Sky selected former Monarchs starting guard, Chelsea Newton, in the WNBA Dispersal Draft.

- Chicago guard Nikki McCray ('95) and center Ashley Robinson ('04) both played at Tennessee, while Monarchs guard Kara Lawson ('03), also played for the Lady Vols.

- Sky guard Elaine Powell ('97) played at Louisiana State, as did Monarchs rookie guard, Scholanda Dorrell ('06).

- Chicago forward Liz Shimek ('06) and Monarchs guard Kristin Haynie ('05), were teammates at Michigan State for three seasons.

2006 WNBA All-Decade Team

Yolanda Griffith, Ticha Penicheiro and Ruthie Bolton were all chosen as nominees for the 2006 WNBA All-Decade Team. All together there were 30 nominees chosen from a panel of national media members and WNBA coaches on the basis of their overall contribution to the League. To vote for our Monarchs players, please visit SacramentoMonarchs.com. Voting will conclude on May 31, 2006 and ten players will be chosen in June to be honored at an All-Star celebration in July.

Stork Visits Monarchs

Congratulations to Monarchs forward DeMya Walker on the birth of her first child, a beautiful baby girl. Zachara Catherine came into the world on April 11, 2006 at 8:34 p.m., weighing 7 pounds, 5 ounces and measuring 19 inches long. Mother and child are doing well. Walker is currently living in Houston where she will spend the rest of her maternity leave. She is expected to rejoin the Monarchs in June.
