
Sabres Sign Rochester Native Derek Whitmore

BUFFALO, NY (July 7, 2011) - Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have signed goaltender Drew MacIntyre and forwards Derek Whitmore and Colin Stuart to one-year deals.
Whitmore (12/17/1984, 5'11", 190 lbs.) collected 47 points (27+20) in 80 games last season for the Portland Pirates (AHL). In 243 AHL career games with Portland and Rochester, Whitmore has amassed 104 points (57+47). The Rochester, NY native played four seasons at Bowling Green University where he picked up 102 points (70+32). His 70 career goals ranked him in the top 20 in BGSU all-time goal scoring list. Whitmore scored his first professional goal against the Syracuse Crunch (AHL) on April 4, 2008 as a member of the Rochester Americans.
MacIntyre (6/24/1983, 6'0", 184 lbs.) split time in the AHL between the Chicago Wolves and the Hamilton Bulldogs last season. MacIntyre appeared in 41 total games, collecting a record of 24-11-3 with a 2.37 GAA. He also went 11-9 with a 1.95 GAA in 20 playoff games, backstopping the Bulldogs to Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals of the Calder Cup playoffs. During his AHL career, MacIntyre has earned 142 wins, with 85 losses and 13 OTL in 261 games played with a 2.39 GAA. In two career NHL games, both with the Vancouver Canucks in 2007-08, he posted a 2.95 GAA and an 0-1-0 record. A native of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, MacIntyre was a fourth round selection (121st overall) of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
Stuart (7/8/1982, 6'2", 200 lbs) appeared in three games with the Sabres last season, collecting two penalty minutes. In 72 games with Portland (AHL) last season, Stuart picked up 44 points (16+28). In his 423 AHL appearances, Stuart has collected 84 goals and 88 assists (172 points). In 54 NHL games with Chicago, Atlanta and Buffalo, Stuart has 13 points (8+5). The Rochester, Minn. Native was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the fifth round (135th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
