
SaberCats Wide Receivers Huey Whittaker and James Roe Bring Home Weekly Honors

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Arena Football League and the SaberCats announced today that wide receivers Huey Whittaker and James Roe have earned weekly honors from the AFL for their performances this past Saturday in San Jose's 84-77 overtime win over the Chicago Rush. Whittaker was named the JLS Ironman of the Week and Roe earned the Spalding Highlight of the Week, making history in Week 12, passing former teammate and AFL Hall of Famer Barry Wagner for fourth place all-time with on the AFL's list of career touchdown reception leaders with his second touchdown early in the third quarter on Saturday.
Whittaker turned in a classic ironman performance, playing wide receiver, linebacker and was a key contributor on special teams. The former South Florida Bull caught five balls for 91 yards and three touchdowns and made the game-tying 28-yard touchdown reception with ten seconds remaining in regulation. Whittaker now has caught nine touchdown passes on the season. He also was the team's leading tackler in the game, recording a season-high nine total tackles (eight solo and two assisted).
Roe hauled in seven passes for 108 yards and three scores against the Rush, the second of which moved him into sole possession of fourth place on the AFL's list of career touchdown reception leaders. Roe now has 268 receiving touchdowns in his career and has posted 56 catches for 617 yards and 20 touchdowns on his 2012 campaign.
