San Jose SaberCats News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. (Oct. 12, 2006) - Former San Jose State University and record-setting arenafootball2 quarterback SCOTT RISLOV signed a two-year free agent contract with the two-time ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats, the club announced today.
"A lot of teams wanted Scott and we are thrilled to have him join the SaberCats," San Jose head coach Darren Arbet said. "The kid can obviously play the indoor game and he has the talent to be a good player in the AFL."
Rislov (6-2, 220) tossed an arena football (AFL & af2) record 106 touchdown passes last season while playing with the Central Valley Coyotes of af2. Starting all 16 games for the Fresno-based team, Rislov completed 371-of-568 passes for 4,446 yards with just 11 interceptions. He also topped the circuit in pass completions and total offensive touchdowns (109) while placing in the top five in seven other statistical categories.
A first-team all-league selection, Rislov helped the Coyotes to a franchise-best 12-4 regular season record and the first playoff appearance in team history.
"I'm happy to finally be here," Rislov said after the signing. "It's been a while coming and I'm ready to get the season started."
During his two-year career at San Jose State (2002-03), Rislov became the only player in school history to pass for more than 3,000 yards twice. He threw for 3,251 yards as a junior and added 3,016 yards his senior season. He started all 24 games he played for the Spartans and had more than twice as many touchdown passes (40) as interceptions (19). He closed his college career by earning Blue team offensive MVP honors in the 2003 Blue-Gray All Star Classic.
Rislov signed with the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent in April 2004 and attended training camp before joining the AFL's Nashville Kats for the 2005 season. He played in just two games throwing 14 passes while also spending time on the team's practice squad.
A premier franchise in the AFL, San Jose has captured two ArenaBowl titles, six Western Division championships, seven consecutive playoff appearances and owns the league's best regular season record this decade. Season tickets for the SaberCats 13th season in the AFL, which begins next February, are available now by calling (408) 573-5577.
