San Jose SaberCats News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. (January 31, 2003) - Kicker Daron Alcorn, the Arena Football League's leader in field goal accuracy in 2002, reached an agreement with the San Jose SaberCats to play for the World Champions this season, announced General Manager Terry Malley.
Alcorn, a six-year AFL veteran, converted 62.5 percent of his field goal attempts (10-of-16) for the SaberCats last season and placed third in the league in kick scoring points with 134. He is one of just three kickers in league history with at least 75 field goal attempts to convert better than 50 percent of his tries.
A two-time All-AFL pick, Alcorn enters the 2003 campaign ranked 4th all-time among kickers with 622 points. The Akron University product tied an AFL record with 118 point after touchdown attempts last year for San Jose while converting 104.
The SaberCats begin defense of their World Championship this Sunday when they travel to Arizona for an ArenaBowl XVI re-match with the Rattlers at Noon (PT). The game will be regionally televised by NBC and can be seen in the Bay Area on NBC11.
San Jose plays its first home game against former quarterback and ArenaBowl XVI MVP John Dutton and the expansion Colorado Crush on February 22.
Individual game tickets are available and can be purchased at all TicketMaster outlets and the HP Pavilion at San Jose ticket office. Season tickets for all eight regular season games played in HP Pavilion are on sale and can be purchased by calling a ticket representative at (408) 573-5577.
