SaberCats Sign Jerry Reese

SAN JOSE, Calif. (February 20, 2003) - Receiver/linebacker Jerry Reese, the SaberCats all-time leader in touchdown receptions, signed a free agent contract to remain with the defending World Champions, announced General Manager Terry Malley.

Reese (5-11, 200) has played his entire six-year Arena Football League career with San Jose, joining the team for its inaugural season in 1995. He signed with the Buffalo Bills in 1997 and played in NFL Europe in 1998 before returning to the SaberCats in 1999.

During the 2002 season, Reese caught 13 touchdown passes to increase his care er total to 73 and overtake Steve Papin as the team's career leader.

The San Jose State University product had his best offensive year in 2000 when he caught 55 passes for 919 yards and set a then team record with 22 touchdown receptions. Entering the 2003 season, Reese ranked in the top five in 11 career categories.

The SaberCats (2-2) look to climb above the .500 mark when they travel to Las Vegas to face the Gladiators on Sunday, March 2. The game will be televised live in the Bay Area on NBC11 at 3:00 p.m. (PT).

San Jose returns to the HP Pavilion to take on the Buffalo Destroyers on Friday, March 14 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for that game and the remaining six home games are available and can be purchased through TicketMaster and at the HP Pavilion box office.
