San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. (February 17, 2005) – Defensive specialist OMARR SMITH was today placed on injured reserve after sustaining a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee in the fourth quarter of San Jose's 62-61 loss at New Orleans on Sunday.

Smith underwent successful surgery on Monday night after the team returned to San Jose and, according to team sources, there is a chance Smith will return to the lineup by the end of the season. Smith's injury is similar to the one sustained by lineman Cedric Pittman against Las Vegas on Feb. 5.

In his first three games of the season Smith had a team-high 20.5 tackles, four pass breakups and an interception.

Ready to fill the void left by Smith is rookie TREMAIN MACK, who was signed to the roster after being waived last week when two-time Defensive Player of the Year CLEVAN THOMAS was activated from IR.

The SaberCats return home to the HP Pavilion on Mar. 11 after a season-long three-game road trip to face Tony Graziani and the Philadelphia Soul.

Individual game tickets for the 2005 season can be purchased through any Northern California TicketMaster outlet, online at www.ticketmaster.com and at the HP Pavilion box office. Season and group tickets are available by contacting a sales representative at (408) 573-5577. More information is also available at www.sanjosesabercats.com.
