Dallas Desperados News Release

DALLAS - Quarterback Clint Stoerner threw for 217 yards and four touchdowns in the Dallas Desperados' surprising 42-28 victory over the Orlando Predators Thursday night at American Airlines Center.

The Desperados (3-1) earned their first franchise victory over the Predators (3-1) and moved into a tie with Orlando for the AFL's best record. Dallas held Orlando's high-powered offense to just 212 total yards and sacked quarterback Joe Hamilton three times.

Desperados WR/DB Will Pettis tied a franchise record for career touchdown receptions and was awarded the U.S. Army Ironman of the Game award with two touchdowns and an interception. Desperados OS Jason Shelley took home Offensive Player of the Game honors with seven catches for 138 yards and two touchdowns.

After trading touchdowns on the first five possessions of the game, the Desperados opened up a 28-14 lead in the second quarter when FB/LB Duke Pettijohn recovered a Predators fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. Pettijohn, the ADT Defensive Player of the Game, had two sacks and led a Desperados defensive effort that provided consistent pressure on Predators quarterback Joe Hamilton. Lineman C. Weatherington also registered a sack in the second half.

At the end of a nearly scoreless third quarter, Stoerner found a wide-open Jason Shelley for a 45-yard touchdown to give Dallas a 35-21 lead. The Desperados sealed their third victory of the season when Pettis intercepted Hamilton on Orlando's final drive.

The Desperados now will travel to Philadelphia Feb. 27 to take on the Soul.
