San Jose SaberCats News Release

Nashville, Tenn. (May 25, 2007) - Sparked by a relentless defensive effort, the San Jose SaberCats used a 21-0 third quarter run to come from behind and beat the Nashville Kats for their sixth straight win, 48-34, on Friday night in an Arena Football League game.

The win was the first in five tries for San Jose (9-3) in the Music City and also produced the team's eighth consecutive playoff berth.

Mark Grieb threw three scoring passes and ran for another and Brian Johnson and Phil Glover each scored on the ground for San Jose while the defense forced a team record tying six turnovers converting five of them into scores.

Nashville (5-8) scored 10 points in the final minute of the first half to take a 24-20 lead at intermission. Fullback Dan Alexander scored on a 1-yard run with 37 seconds left and following a bizarre ending to the half, which saw SaberCats head coach Darren Arbet receive an unsportsmanlike penalty, Jason Witczak booted a 20-yard field goal with no time left.

Marquis Floyd had a pair of interceptions and San Jose recovered three fumbles in the second half as the SaberCats held Nashville to 10 points after intermission.

Alan Harper recovered an Alexander fumble to start the second half and the SaberCats regained the lead when Grieb found Rodney Wright on a 5-yard scoring pass just over three minutes into the third quarter. Floyd's first interception led to a Grieb to Roe 5-yard scoring pass and Phil Glover's 2-yard touchdown run following his own fumble recovery gave the SaberCats a 41-24 lead after three quarters.
