San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. (June 1, 2005) – The 2005 season finished two weeks earlier than expected for the San Jose SaberCats, yet the mood at the annual team banquet was positive, as players and coaches were recognized for their tremendous efforts during the season.

Among the players honored were Albrey Battle, who was named ‘Lineman of the Year,' WR/LB Shalon Baker, co-recipient of the ‘Most Inspirational' award, and QB Mark Grieb and OL/DL George Williams, who were among the four ‘Captains Award' recipients.

A number of players came away winning multiple awards, with DS Clevan Thomas garnering three, the most of any player. In addition to being one of the four ‘Captains Award' honorees, Thomas was also named the ‘Defensive Player of the Year' and the co-recipient of the ‘Most Inspirational' award.

‘Ironman of the Year' and ‘Rookie of the Year' honors went to WR/DB Rodney Wright, who was a difference maker on both sides of the ball in his first year in the Arena Football League.

Veteran WR/LB James Roe was one of the four ‘Captains Award' winners and also was named the ‘Player's Player Award' for his character on and off the field.

The team did not forget OS Rashied Davis, who was left off of the league's awards lists despite having a spectacular 2005 season. Davis was named ‘Offensive Player of the Year' and the ‘Most Valuable Player' by his peers, who voted on all of the awards of the night.

As the night came to an end, players and coaches were already talking about next season and the desire to get back on top. Fans can be sure that the SaberCats organization from the top down will be doing everything in their power to make certain that next season's banquet comes two weeks later.

The SaberCats are now taking deposits for 2006 season and group tickets. Contact a sales representative at (408) 573-5577 for more information. Check out the SaberCats official website www.sanjosesabercats.com for the latest team-related information.
