
Ryan Lehr Sold to Kansas City Royals

The 2004 Central League Champion Edinburg Roadrunners and the Central Baseball League are announcing that the contract of 2004 CBL All-Star Infielder Ryan Lehr has been purchased by the Kansas City Royals. Lehr will participate in Royals Spring Training in Surprise, Arizona as a non-roster invitee.
Lehr, 25, hit .322 in 92 games at first and third base for the Roadrunners in 2004. He was among the Central League leaders in several categories. He ranked 7th in hitting; tied for the league lead in RBI with 74; was second in hits (119) and had 26 doubles (4th). "Ryan had a great year offensively for us in 2005 as a leader in RBI and in doubles," Director of Player Procurement Chad Tredaway said on Friday after the news. "He was a big part of who we were as a team in 2004. I think (Lehr) deserves a shot.
Lehr was the starting third baseman for the Central League in the July 20 All-Star Game vs. the Northeast League in Fort Worth, TX. He was also named to the post-season all-star team.
Originally drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the eighth round of the 1997 draft, Lehr played four seasons in the Braves organization. Prior to joining the Roadrunners, he played in the Orioles and Angels farm systems and had independent experience in both the Western and Northeast Leagues.
The Edinburg Roadrunners are a member of the Central Baseball league an independent league located throughout four southern states. The league is preparing for its 12th season and its fourth under its current name. Teams are located in Edinburg (TX), San Angelo (TX), Robstown (TX), Ft. Worth (TX), El Paso (TX), Shreveport, (LA), Jackson (MS), and Pensacola (FL). The CBL will play a 94 game schedule between May and August 2005.
