Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Mississippi RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin McClelland announced today that winger Ryan Campbell has been re-signed for the 2007-2008 season. Campbell is the third player, and the first that returns from last season, that the RiverKings have in the fold for the upcoming season.
Campbell will be entering his third season with the RiverKings and his fourth pro season overall. This past season, the 5-11, 185 pound Campbell made the transition from center to wing and responded with a career high 28 goals. That goal total and his 60 points both placed him second on the team while his 32 assists were fourth. He also led the club in playoff goals scored with eight and overall scoring with a total of 19 points.
In his two year RiverKings career, the Edmonton, Alberta native has played in 127 regular season games, scored 51 goals and collected 70 assists for 121 points.
Campbell was originally signed by the RiverKings after the first week of the 2005-2006 season. In 63 games that season, he put the puck in the net 23 times while he assisted on 38 other goals. Campbell has also been very durable while with the RiverKings as he has yet to miss a game in his two years with the club.
Prior to his RiverKings career, Campbell spent his rookie season of 2004-2005 in the ECHL with the Columbia Inferno. That followed four seasons of college hockey at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks where he was the Nanooks' leading scoring during his senior campaign.
The Mississippi RiverKings will begin the 16th season of CHL hockey in the Mid-South with the opening of training camp on October 8. The RiverKings are coming off a season where they finished the regular season with 39 wins, the most since 02-03 and the third most in the franchise's history. The team also made a return to the playoffs for the first time since 2003 and advanced to the Northern Conference finals before falling to the eventual President's Cup champion Colorado Eagles.
The on the ice success was accompanied by off the ice success. The team was awarded as the CHL's "Most Improved Franchise of the Year" for 2006-2007. The attendance at the DCC increased 18% from 2005-2006, the fifth largest increase among all 87 minor pro hockey teams in North America. The team averaged 4700 fans over the final 12 regular season home games at the DCC.
