January 24, 2007 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Toronto Rock News Release
TORONTO -The National Lacrosse League announced the week four player awards for the 2007 season.
The Weekly Player Awards are divided into four categories: Defensive Player, Offensive Player, Transitional Player and Rookie of the Week. The players selected are determined by a vote of the General Managers and Head Coaches of the thirteen clubs in the league.
Among the League notables was Toronto Rock forward Ryan Benesch, named Rookie of the Week for his big game this past weekend. Ryan scored four goals and an assist in his NLL home debut game at the Air Canada Centre on Saturday night. He also collected six loose balls in the 19-15 loss to the Rochester Knighthawks.
Benesch was the first overall selection in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft and acquired in a late December trade in 2006 with the San Jose Stealth along with team mates Chad Thompson and Kevin Fines for Colin Doyle, Darren Halls and a 2007 first round entry draft pick.
The Toronto Rock look for their first win of the season this weekend on the road in Philadelphia. The game will be broadcast live on Rogers Sportsnet on Saturday January 27th at 7:30 p.m. EST.
