Sting goalie named Player of the Week by NLL

GLENDALE, AZ --- In recognition of his outstanding play in this past weekend's home-and-home sweep of the Portland Lumberjax, Arizona Sting goaltender Rob Blasdell has been named NLL Defensive & Overall Player of the Week for week #4 of the season.

On Friday night, Blasdell shut out the Portland Lumberjax for a franchise record 38 minutes en route to an 11-4 victory at Jobing.com Arena. Blasdell tied the Sting record for saves in a game by making 49 stops on 53 shots in the home win. The following night at the Rose Garden, the veteran net minder made 27 saves on 36 shots in a 12-9 victory for the Sting, who jumped from fifth to second place in the NLL's West Division standings by virtue of their back-to-back wins over Portland over the weekend.

Currently ranked first in the league in both G.A.A. (8.50) and save percentage (82.0%), Blasdell has played every minute in net for the Sting (3-1) thus far this season. Last year, his first in Arizona, the 6'1", 205 lb. native of Orillia, Ontario registered a 5-5 record, a G.A.A. of 12.45, and a save percentage of 73.73%

Blasdell was named the Sting's franchise player on August 1, 2006. Going into this season he ranked sixth on the NLL's all-time saves list having registered 3,032 as a member of the Ontario Raiders/Toronto Rock, Albany Attack/San Jose Stealth, and Arizona Sting. In 2002, Blasdell was named NLL Goalie of the Year after leading the Albany Attack to a 14-2 record while posting a G.A.A. of 12.01 and a save percentage of 77.50%.
