RWB Adria Will Be Rhinos First Test at PAETEC Park

(Rochester, NY)... U.S. Soccer announced today the first round pairings for the 2008 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Rochester Rhinos will face RWB Adria of the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) in the opening round on Tuesday, June 10 at 7:30 p.m. at PAETEC Park. The Rhinos have participated in the U.S. Open Cup Tournament in all 12 previous seasons, posting a 19-9-3 mark in 31 matches played. They have twice reached the finals of the nation's oldest team tournament including 1999 when they became the only non-MLS team to capture the title since the inception of Major League Soccer in 1996. That year Rochester defeated four MLS teams, including the Colorado Rapids in the finals. RWB Adria is a Croatian-American soccer club from Chicago-Illinois and was founded in 1959. This is the fourth time that RWB Adria has participated in the U.S. Open Cup Tournament (1991, '96, 2007). Pairings for the opening round were determined by blind draw. Tickets for the Rhinos U.S. Open Cup match against RWB Adria will go on sale Saturday, May 31 at 10:00 a.m. at the PAETEC Park Box Office, by phone at (585) 232-1900 and all ticketmaster locations. Adult ticket prices will range from $10.00 - $20.00, with children ages 12 and under able to receive a free General Admission ticket for the match. Season ticket holders should use their ticket marked Wild Card A for entrance into the match. At stake in the tournament is $180,000 in prize money broken down as follows: $100,000 to the champion, $50,000 to the runner up and $10,000 to the team that advances deepest into the tournament from each of the Division II, Division III and amateur levels. The winner of the tournament will earn a berth into the CONCACAF 2009-10 Champions League.

Rhinos/add 1 The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the U.S. Soccer Federation's National Championship, is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. It is the oldest annual team tournament in U.S. sports history and among the oldest soccer tournaments of its type in the world. In 1999, the competition was renamed to honor long-time soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.
