Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - Saturday night, the Rapid City Rush and the Missouri Mavericks clashed for Game #2 of the opening round in the best-of-seven series. The Rush would mount another three goal night led by Jared Brown, Taggart Desmet, and Jesse Schultz en route to a 3-1 victory. Tim Boron denied another 36 saves, giving him 67 stops on 68 shots over the weekend. The Rush now hit the road for the next three games against the Mavericks with the first road game on Wednesday, April 3rd. Tune into 100.3 the FOX or online at foxradio.com to follow all the action.
The Rush picked up in the first period where they left off last night, with goaltender Tim Boron turning away all 18 chances by the Mavericks. With just 32 seconds remaining the first frame, Jared Brown would take the game into his own hands winning a crucial face-off in the Mavericks zone, dancing through defenders and potting the unassisted shorthanded goal lifting the Rush to a 1-0 lead by first intermission.
The stellar goaltending for the Rush would continue into the second period as Boron turned aside a breakaway by Andrew Courtney and later standing tall against a rare 4-on-1 chance. But the Mavericks wouldn't be denied at 13:47 as former Rush player Colt King tallied the first goal of the series for Missouri, knotting the contest 1-1.
After going 0-6 on powerplays through the night, Taggart Desmet broke the powerplay slump for the Rush, deflecting in a shot from Jamie VanderVeeken to reclaim the lead at 11:01. Jesse Schultz brought the house to their feet, cashing in off a take away at center ice by Winston Day Chief, who would be credited with the assist. Tim Boron would battle a 6-5 man disadvantage for the closing two minutes of play and would end the night with another impressive performance turning away a total of 36 shots en route to a 3-1 victory for the Rush.
Rapid City's penalty kill was perfect again, denying all six chances faced in the game.
