
Brahmas Take 2-0 Series Lead with 3-2 Overtime Win

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - The Brahmas outlasted the Mallards in overtime Saturday night, defeating Quad City by the score of 3-2 to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven, opening-round series.
Quad City held a 2-1 edge heading into the third period, a situation in which they were undefeated during the regular season. In games when leading after 40 minutes of play, the Mallards were 23-0-0 in 2012-13.
Darren McMillan gave the Mallards a 1-0 lead with a shorthanded goal at 5:04 of the first period. Tomas Klempa fired a sharp-angle wrist shot from the left face-off circle to even the score 1-1 at 17:30 of the opening frame. For Klempa, it was his first score of the postseason.
Just before the end of the first period, Mickey Lang notched his first score of the postseason, after scoring 41 during the regular season.
The Brahmas evened the score at 1:41 of the third period when Calin Wild one-timed a slap shot from the left-wing point that beat Quad City netminder Neil Conway top-shelf. For Wild, it was his first goal this postseason and the third playoff goal of his career.
The game remained tied through the end of regulation, forcing sudden death overtime.
John Snowden broke the tie and gave Fort Worth the win 4:47 into the first overtime period as he fired a slop shot from the high slot that trickled through Conway's legs and into the back of the net. The score was the third postseason goal of Snowden's career and first in the Central Hockey League playoffs.
Kristofer Westblom stopped 21 of 23 shots in net for the Brahmas, earning his second consecutive postseason victory.
Conway made 34 saves on 37 shots in net for Quad City.
Fort Worth went 1-for-4 on the power play, while Quad City went 0-for-1 with the man advantage.
With the win, Fort Worth takes a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series versus Quad City. The two teams face off again Wednesday, April 3 at the iWireless Center in Moline, Illinois for game three. The contest is set for 7:05pm.
