Chicago Rush News Release

February 14, 2003 – The Chicago Rush announced today that it has signed free agent WR/DB DeJuan Alfonzo to a contract for the remainder of the 2003 season.

Alfonzo was released earlier this week after spending the first two-plus seasons of his AFL career with the Indiana Firebirds. After spending the entire 2001 season on Injured Reserve, Alfonzo burst on the scene in 2002, playing in 12 games and leading the Firebirds in tackles (72.5), interceptions (6) and passes broken up (13).

"DeJuan is a good defensive back that we have a great deal of respect for," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "Because of the similarity between the Rush and Firebird systems, he should be able to make an easy transition to Chicago and be able to fill a need for us on defense.

To make room on its roster, the Rush released defensive specialist Anthony Derricks. Derricks played in Chicago's first two games, recording five tackles.

The Rush travels to Indiana this week to play the Firebirds before returning home to host the Los Angeles Avengers Sunday, February 23. Kickoff at Allstate Arena is scheduled for 2 p.m. Fans wishing to purchase season tickets, starting at $64, should call the Rush at (877) Rush-Tix (787-4849) or visit the team's Web site at www.chicagorush.com. Fans wishing to purchase individual game tickets to any Rush regular season home game may order by calling Ticketmaster at (312) 559-1212 or by visiting the Ticketmaster Web site at www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets also may be purchased in person at any Ticketmaster outlet or the Allstate Arena box office.
