RAPID CITY, S.D. (March 17, 2014) - Tim Boron stopped all five Quad City Mallard penalty shots after making 22 saves in regulation and overtime and Winston Day Chief scored the winning goal as the host Rapid City Rush edged the Mallards 3-2 in a shootout Monday night. With the win the third place Rush (37-22-2, 76 points) ended a three game winless streak while the sixth place Mallards (28-20-10, 66 points), who did earn a single point for their second straight shootout setback, saw their winless skid stretch to four games.

Day Chief- who also picked up an assist in regulation- delivered the only successful penalty shot in round four of the shootout.

The game went to overtime and, as it proved, the shootout after the Mallards battled back to erase a short-lived Rapid City lead early in the third period. The Rush's Jesse Schultz broke a 1-1 deadlock from close range just a minute and 29 seconds into the third, but the Mallards would even the score at 6:04 with Vladimir Nikiforov's wrist shot from the left wing circle.

It was the Mallards who had first grabbed the lead when Thomas Frazee finished off a give-and-go with Jeff Lee from the doorstep at 4:21 of the first period. Jared Brown's blast from the top of the left wing circle evened the score at one at 7:24 of the second period.

The Mallards next play at home Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the St. Charles Chill. Fans can purchase $20 4-packs of tickets for Wednesday's game at the iWireless Center box office or by calling the Mallards at 309-277-1364 while supplies last. $2 hot dogs and beers will be available at iWireless Center concessions stands during Wednesday night's game.
