Chicago Rush News Release

CHICAGO (August 10, 2011) - The Arena Football League announced Wednesday that Rush DB Vic Hall has been named as the league's Defensive Player of the Year for his record-breaking rookie season in 2011.

"I feel very fortunate and blessed to have been selected for this award by the league," said Hall. "I owe this to my coaches and teammates who helped me learn and develop throughout the season."

Despite an injury that shortened his season, Hall broke numerous AFL and Rush franchise records in his first season out of University of Virginia. The defensive back tallied 109 tackles in the regular season which is a new single-season Rush franchise record.

"This honor couldn't have been awarded to a better player or person," said Rush head coach Bob McMillen. "It was a shame that he wasn't able to have played all 18 games. I have no doubt he would have shattered every record.

The highlight of Hall's rookie season came in Week 13 when he recorded three interceptions against the Kansas City Command to break the AFL's single-season record for interceptions with 15. Hall's 14 interceptions through 12 games also tied Professional Football Hall of Famer Dick Lane's nearly 60-year-old pro football record for most interceptions through 12 games.

Hall was a key contributor to the AFL's number one scoring defense. The Rush defense, led by Coach Walt Housman, held opponents to a League-low 46.3 points per game and posted new AFL records in takeaways (56) and interceptions (42). Other candidates for the AFL's Defensive Player of the Year honor included: J.C. Neal-Tulsa Talons, Cliff Dukes-Tampa Bay Storm, Micheaux Robinson-Jacksonville Sharks and Rayshaun Kizer-Jacksonville Sharks.
