Rapid City Rush News Release

(Prescott Valley, AZ) - The Rapid City Rush completed their seven-game road trip with a 4-2 victory over the Arizona Sundogs on Saturday night. The win means the Rush complete the rod swing with a 5-2 record and the squad has not won six of the last eight contests. Newly signed goaltender Tim Boron got his first start of the season and made 42 saves for the win.

For the seventh straight game, the Rush picked up the game's first goal, this one collected by veteran center Brendon Hodge. Ryan Menei broke into the Sundogs zone on a two-on-one and slid a pass to Hodge in the slot, and the veteran buried the opportunity for his fourth goal of the season. With just 1:59 left in the first, Sundogs captain Tyler Butler snapped a wrist shot from the right point that found its way through a screen and in, tying the contest 1-1 heading into the first intermission.

In the second period, the Rush stormed out with three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead. The first came just 1:55 into the period as Les Reaney snuck a shot home from the left side of goal, regaining the lead for the Rush. Defenseman Grant Farrell then doubled the lead, streaking into the Sundogs zone and firing a snap shot from the right faceoff dot that beat Levente Szuper under the blocker. At the 11:54 mark of the second, Hodge collected his second of the game while on the powerplay, an effort that was set up by Ryan Menei. The Sundogs finally stopped the bleeding with a powerplay goal their own with just over five minutes left. With a scoring chance from an offensive-zone faceoff, Joey Sides roofed a backhand shot to pull Arizona to within two.

Despite being outshot 15-4 in the final period, the Rush held on for the 4-2 win.

The Rush and Sundogs square off again this Tuesday, December 21st at 6:35pm at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Tickets are still available.
