Rush Complete Opening Weekend Sweep Of Mavericks

(Rapid City, SD) - On Saturday night, the Rapid City Rush completed the opening weekend sweep of the Missouri Mavericks. It was the high profile newcomers once again that lifted the Rush to victory, led by Brendon Hodge, Brendan Cook and Scott Wray.
Colt King kept his momentum going from the night before where he collected two goals including the game winner. Tonight, he notched a powerplay goal 7:20 into the first with Brendan Cook and Rich Hansen collecting the assists. Just over four minutes later, the Mavericks answered as Karey Pieper notched his first of the year to tie the game at one. It would take until the 17:48 mark for Rapid City to strike again, this time coming from new player/assistant Scott Wray caught Doug Groenestege off guard for the go-ahead goal.
In the middle frame, Brendon Hodge collected his first goal in a Rush uniform as he blasted home a one-timer to give Rapid City a 3-1 cushion at the 6:45 mark. Under 3 minutes later, Missouri would counter with powerplay goal of their own as Sean Perkins made cut the lead in half. The two teams headed into the final 20 minutes with the Rush up 3-2.
The final period featured mostly special teams as the Rush dominated in shots 14-5. The lone two goals were scored by Rapid City as Jamie VanderVeeken and Brendon Hodge both netted powerplay goals to lift the Rush to a 5-2 win and sweep of Missouri. Missouri ended the game 1-for-11 while the Rush were 4-for-15. Miguel Beaudry made 21 saves for his second win of the season.
Up next for Rapid City is a pair of game against the Arizona Sundogs on Friday, October 23rd, and Saturday, October, 24th. Both games are scheduled for 7:05pm and tickets are still available for both contests.
