Run After Run Scored Against Vipers

Allowing runs in eight of nine innings the Calgary Vipers (31-22) were defeated 12-3 by the Edmonton Capitals (29-22) at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. 18 hits in total were allowed by the Snakes with the second inning the only one were they prevented the Capitals from scoring. With the loss the Vipers' three game winning streak was snapped and their lead in the North Division shrinks to one game.

Edward Valdez (3-3) took the loss after allowing 12 hits and seven runs in five and two-third innings while Lou Pote (5-2) recorded the win with two runs against allowed in seven innings pitched.

Edmonton scored in the top of the first inning when Matt Rogelstad and Todd Linden singled to put runners at the corners followed by a Brent Metheny sacrifice fly for a 1-0 advantage.

The Capitals doubled their lead to 2-0 in the third as Lou Pote doubled, Steve Brown singled, and Rogelstad collected a sacrifice fly.

Another run was tacked onto the lead in the fourth frame when Enrique Cruz was hit by a pitch and Tom Collaro doubled him home for a 3-0 advantage.

Calgary got a run back in the bottom of the fourth as Wilver Perez tripled and scored on a ground ball from Jimmy Rohan for a 3-1 score.

Edmonton increased the lead to 5-1 in the fifth inning when Brown and Linden singled, Linden stole second base, and Lou Santangelo knocked in two with a base hit.

The Vipers scratched across a run in the bottom of five for a 5-2 score as Edward Valdez and Rohan singled followed by the Capitals committing an error for an unearned tally.

In the sixth frame Edmonton continued to score when Brown singled, Rogelstad tripled for a run batted in, Linden walked, and Pete Tountas doubled home two for a 8-2 advantage.

Another Capitals run was added in the seventh inning as Cruz doubled and scored on a throwing error by Calgary's Perez for a 9-2 lead.

For a sixth straight inning Edmonton scored in the eighth frame when Rogelstad walked and Tountas collected a RBI double for a 10-2 advantage.

C.J. Ziegler hit his first home run as a Viper and 15th of the season in the bottom of the eighth for a 10-3 score.

The Capitals finished off their scoring in the ninth as Chad Blackwell singled, Brown walked, Linden singled to load the bases, and Nick Valdez drove in two with a base hit for a 12-3 lead.

This series in Calgary at Foothills Stadium against the Edmonton Capitals continues on Toonie Tuesday July 19th at 6:30, Weiner Wednesday July 20th at 6:30 for $5.00 Student Night, Thursday July 21st at 6:30 for Real Estate Night where Dan the One Man Band will be performing, and Friday July 22nd at 6:30.

The Calgary Vipers will be hosting three Women's Pro Fastpitch games between the USAA Pride and the Tennessee Diamonds August 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 6:30 at Foothills Stadium. Tickets are $16 for the Lower Bowl and $12 for the Upper Bowl. Three game packages are also available for $45 and $33. In addition there will be two skill clinics August 2nd and 4th from 10am - 12pm. Cost is $99 for a Clinic and Lunch or $120 for the Clinic, Lunch and two Lower Bowl tickets. There will also be a Lunch Banquet August 3rd including an autograph session with both teams and a lower bowl ticket to the August 3rd game for $49.95 with keynote speaker Cheri Kempf, the Commissioner of the NPF and an ESPN analyst.
